Airborne microwave refractometer
Abstract
The design of a Birnbaum type microwave refractometer for the study of refractive index variations in the troposphere is described. Some detailed comments on relevant practical problems encountered in airborne measurements are given. This includes: (1) frequency source, (2) high Q cavities, and (3) electronic circuitry for the recording systems which is calibrated to read in terms of N units. The refractometer is capable of detecting a total change of 100 N to 300 N units (adjustable) plus or minus 100 N.
