Computation of the turbulent boundary layer on the basis of the effective-viscosity hypothesis
Abstract
A method is suggested for approximate calculation of turbulent boundary layers in an incompressible fluid with longitudinal pressure gradient on the basis of the Clauser-Mellor effective-viscosity hypothesis. The solution thus obtained is in satisfactory agreement with the numerical solution of equations of the turbulent boundary layer, closed in accordance with the Clauser-Mellor hypothesis; the only exception is the boundary-layer region directly ahead of its separation.
