Mechanical stress in a solid due to electromagnetic forces
Abstract
A method is proposed for calculating the mechanical forces resulting from the interaction between the magnetic field and the current in a circular conducting cylinder. It is assumed that the density and magnetic field of the longitudinal current in the cylinder depend only on the radius of the conductor. The method is applied to the solution of conducting bodies of various cross sections under certain conditions of magnetic field. It is shown that there is a discrepancy between the formulas derived for solid conductors and those valid for only liquid conductors.
