The waveguide assembly of a satellite communications earth-station in the decimeter waveband
Abstract
A complete waveguide assembly for a satellite communications ground station using a single antenna operating in the decimeter range is described. The components of the assembly described are: the polarizer, the rotating coupling, the dual-purpose receiving and transmitting filter, the waveguide bandpass filter, the separating filter, a ferrite waveguide isolator, and the power changeover switch. The dual-purpose receiving and transmitting filter consists of two planar waveguide-coaxial dual T-joints interconnected by two waveguide branches of different lengths acting as phase shifters, and a dummy load. All parts of the dual-purpose section were designed so that they are capable of accommodating a high power level over an extremely wide frequency band (30%).
