On the propagation of electromagnetic waves through ferrite-loaded coaxial cable
Abstract
A simple method for generating a magnetic field of appreciable extent with the aid of direct current flowing along the transmission line is sought. This can lead to a radially inhomogeneous magnetic field along the line, with altered EM wave propagation conditions, in the case of a coaxial line. A coaxial line comprising two ideally conducting coaxial cylinders in a ferrite-loaded space is considered. Asymptotic formulas are derived for the Bessel functions when the coaxial cross section is large, and expansion of the Bessel functions in small values of the argument is applicable when the section is small. Propagation of TEM, TE, and TM modes is discussed, along with slowing down of waves at comparatively intense EM fields in the coaxial line.
