Astronomical factors of the shift of estimates in radar observations of drifts of meteor tracks.
Abstract
Astronomical factors introducing shifts in estimates of the vertical wind component obtained from radar observations of meteor track drift are examined. A probability model is constructed to determine the size of such shifts when different methods are used in conjunction with the radar observations. Results indicate that at least three stations, one at the equator and one each at midlatitudes of the southern and northern hemisphere are desirable to obtain accurate estimates of the distribution of the parameters of the meteor radiants with the purpose of correcting the shift function of the coordinates of reflecting points on the track.
