Variational principle for a perfect fluid in a space with torsion
Abstract
On the basis of a variational principle that is a direct covariant generalization of the corresponding specialrelativistic procedure, a general definition is given for a perfect fluid interacting in a torsion field in the framework of both the EinsteinCartan and tetradic theories of gravitation. It is shown that the principal characteristic of this definition is the choice of the perfect fluid's canonical energymomentum tensor as the sources of the gravitational field. This is substantially different from the usual generalrelativistic representation of the perfect fluid's metric energymomentum tensor as the sources of the field.
