A finite element method for calculating subcritical stationary flows
Abstract
The two dimensional, irrotational, subcritical flow of an ideal compressible fluid around an airfoil profile which is convex, symmetrical and at zero angle of attack is studied in the hodograph plane. The discretization of finite elements is justified by proving that the solution calculated in the limited domain converges towards the solution in the infinite domain. The method is tested by examples for which the exact solutions are known.
