A new Milky Way satellite found in 21-centimeter line observations.
Abstract
An anomalous feature in the 21-cm line near the galactic plane appears to be a small, nearby, tidally distorted galaxy. Tidal debris is shown to form a stream of high-velocity H I clouds. The observations and a tidal interaction model based on Schmidt's rotation parameters indicate a distance from the sun of 17 plus or minus 4 kpc, a perigalactic distance of 22 plus or minus 2 kpc, and a mass of 1.0 plus or minus 0.2 x 10 to 8 solar masses.
