3C 411: a newly discovered N galaxy with a large redshift.
Abstract
3C 411 (PKS 2019+09), normal extragalactic radio source at low galactic latitude, is identified with a variable, 20th magnitude N galaxy. it has a rich emission-line spectrum yielding a redshift z = 0.469. We discuss quantitative spectroscopic criteria which tend to place 3C 411 between QSOs and normal radio galaxies, similar to the nearer N systems. A high-resolution synthesis radio map at 5 GHz shows a double-lobed source with a low-brightness connecting bridge, and a nuclear source centered over the optical object.
