Gravimetric studies on Guadeloupe and on the islands of its archipelago - The Lesser Antilles
Abstract
From 1968-1975, 668 gravimetric measurements were carried out on Guadeloupe, the Lesser Antilles as well as on St. Barthelemy and St. Martin. The following results were obtained: (1) a better knowledge of the distribution of dense rocks: of irregularities in the underlying ancient volcanic rocks on Marie Galant and Grande Terre; of the extension of heavy intrusive rocks on St. Martin; of the presence of dense rocks associated with the fissuration of limestone deposits on the north of Marie Galant; (2) the confirmation of the presence of a zone of gravity anomalies of Bouguer minimum between the two islands of Guadeloupe and extending towards the north; (3) a relation between the epoch of the establishment of magma massifs and gravimetric anomalies in these regions.
