Inaccuracy effect of gravitational parameter
Abstract
The present work examines the effect of inaccuracies in the determination of the earth's gravitational parameter (mu) on each of the following parameters in two-body problem calculations: the inverse, square root, and inverse square root of mu; circular and escape velocities; the semi-latus rectum; the major axis of the orbit; and the orbital period. Starting with a value of 398,600.37 plus or minus 1.0 cu km per sq cm for mu, the effect of a small increment to this value on these two-body parameters was calculated with the aid of a computer, and the results are tabulated and recorded on nomographic charts.
