Properties of nonSchwarzschild gravitational lenses
Abstract
The focusing properties of very simple nonSchwarzschild gravitational fields are investigated. It is shown analytically that such gravitational lenses may possess some rather unusual nontrivial properties. In particular, the existence of twodimensional caustics is demonstrated. It is noted that the properties of such caustics must be taken into account when estimating the probability of observing gravitationallensing effects. Some errors and inaccuracies in previous papers on this topic are pointed out.
