Effects of fin base-temperature depression in a multifin array
Abstract
An analysis of the phenomenon of temperature depression at the base of a fin relative to surrounding base material is presented which takes into account such factors as the presence and proximity of adjacent fins, and the nature of the heat transfer process on the back side of the finned wall (for example, the magnitude of the back convective heat transfer coefficient). The study is important in that many investigations, in neglecting temperature depression, introduce a substantial error into their heat transfer calculations.
