The magnetospheres of the Earth and Jupiter
Abstract
Papers are presented which combine theoretical models and calculations with observational data in the continuing development of the state of knowledge concerning the phenomena and dynamics of the magnetospheres of both the earth and Jupiter. Some of the topics covered include motions of the earth's bow shock, substorm effects on the neutral sheet inside 10 earth radii, hot-cold plasma interactions in the earth's magnetosphere, evidence for magnetic field line reconnection in the solar wind, upper limits to Jovian X-ray emission from the Uhuru satellite, the distortion of the Jovian magnetic field as deduced from charged particles studies, Jovian trapped electrons and protons and their interaction with Io, and whether Jupiter's magnetosphere is like a pulsar's or the earth's. Individual items are announced in this issue.
