Interconnecting SAW filters for low loss frequency multiplexers and frequency synthesizers
Abstract
Theoretical and experimental data on the effects of interconnecting SAW filters will be reported. Multiple-connected channels will be compared with corresponding single-connected channels to examine the insertion loss and distortion, in both the magnitude and phase responses, which are incurred due to interconnection. This technique, which uses a single series inductor and the interconnection of the individual-channel input transducers in a series-parallel configuration to achieve an optimum source-device impedance match, has been shown theoretically to be an effective low loss method for coupling SAW filters in the frequency synthesizer. Here complete device performance will be evaluated and the results used to determine the applicability of this coupling technique to other more general multiple channel SAW devices.
