Relaxation processes in a fully developed turbulent flow
Abstract
A quasilinear system of hyperbolic equations in terms of the mean velocity, the turbulent energy, and the Reynolds stress is proposed for describing the transient phenomena in a fully developed turbulent flow with transverse shear. The system of equations contains relaxation terms along with the usual terms. It is shown that the entire period of turbulence evolution can be divided into three stages: an initial stage, a wave stage, and a quasisteady stage. The wave solutions are obtained in a linear approximation for a special case.
