Relativistic rocket dynamics as a scientific trend
Abstract
Consideration of the basic premises of relativistic rocket dynamics as one of the promising trends of modern theoretical physics and future engineering physics. The relation between relativistic mechanics and classical mechanics of constant and variable rest mass is discussed, taking into account the role of the generalized Meshcherskii equation. It is recommended that relativistic rocket dynamics be treated as the theory of flight of relativistic jet vehicles using the ambient cosmic medium under the action of forces applied to the vehicles. The basis of relativistic rocket dynamics will then be relativistic mechanics with a variable rest mass, which is based on the relativistic generalized Meshcherskii equation. The basic problem of relativistic rocket dynamics is then formulated, after making a number of physically justified simplifying assumptions, on the basis of the relativistic generalized Meshcherskii equation. For the solution of this problem it is necessary to make certain assumptions concerning the nature of the addition of interstellar hydrogen to the relativistic jet vehicle.
