Stable equilibrium positions of two flexibly coupled bodies in a low-altitude orbit
Abstract
The stable equilibrium positions of two bodies coupled by a thin nonexpandable tether are determined, assuming that the bodies librate in the orbital plane under the action of gravitational and aerodynamic moments. The conditions under which the tether will remain taut for any period of time desired are determined.
