Superconducting dc machines
Abstract
The applications for superconducting dc machines are: motors (marine propulsion drives to steel rolling mills, drives to large pumps and blowers in power stations, drives to numerous other industrial process plants including the manufacture of cement, paper mills, colliery winders, etc.), and special purpose drives such as for wind tunnels and possibly airships. Applications for generators include power for marine propulsion, chlorine production, aluminum smelting, and copper refining. As the introduction of these new machines into industry increases, designs will become standardized, costs will fall, and the range of applications will increase.
