Two-step selective photoionization of U-235 in uranium vapor
Abstract
Selective photoionization of U-235 was demonstrated in a beam of uranium vapor using a tunable CW dye laser and a Hg arc lamp. The ions thus generated were then separated from the atomic beam by means of electrostatic deflection. The apparatus in this experiment was set up primarily to evaluate various parameters associated with two step processes in uranium vapor; such as photoionization cross sections and excited state lifetimes.
