Experimental attitude sensors on satellite X4
Abstract
A package of three experimental attitude sensors form part of the payload of a United Kingdom satellite, X4. One of the sensors, a single-axis star sensor, is used in controlling the attitude of the satellite. The remaining two are both earth sensors. One operates on the earth's albedo using a 100-element self-scanned silicon photodiode array, and the other operates at 15 microns using pyroelectric detectors. The sensors and the objectives of the experiment are described.
