Determination of the coronal electron density distribution from range and range rate data during solar occultations of the HELIOS spacecraft
Abstract
A passive Helios experiment for determining coronal electron density distribution is described. Radial electron density distribution can be determined from time delay effects of Helios tracking data during occultation, and angular distribution from occultation data when the line of sight between Helios and earth is tangential to the trajectory of the spacecraft. Requirements regarding tracking of this experiment, and data release, are summarized.
