Local variation of heat transfer around a heated circular cylinder in a sound field
Abstract
The distribution of the local heat transfer rates around a heated horizontal circular cylinder in a transverse sound field has been studied experimentally. Heat transfer measurements were made in an anechoic chamber using optical methods at fairly large values of the boundary layer thickness ratio, where effects are expected to be quite strong. While practical experimental conditions do not provide a perfect match for asymptotic theoretical studies, comparisons strongly favor the view that the influence of a sound field on steady convection is applied through the Reynolds stresses associated with the oscillating flow as assumed in analyses.
