Functional approach to the solution of Stokes' flow fields
Abstract
It is pointed out that a use of the bending plate analogy, which is perfectly valid for conditions in the case of a plane, is not permissible in studies of axisymmetric Stokes flow fields. A correct method for the investigation of such fields is presented, taking into account a unified functional approach reported by Napolitano (1973). A review is provided of the mathematical formulation of steady incompressible Stokes flows of Newtonian fluids on the basis of the concepts of functional analysis considered by Napolitano. Attention is given to a derivation of the relations which are needed for an application of the functional approach to the solution of Stokes flow fields.
