Examples of ionogram sequences from Sodankyla
Abstract
Examples of ionogram sequences are given which represent complicated ionospheric behavior at E-layer heights. The readings taken during a magnetic storm show rapid changes in the ionosphere by scattered and oblique echoes in the ionogram. A strong echo is indicated in an ionogram with the virtual height of the echo decreasing with increasing frequency. Such an occurence is probably caused by direct reflection from a moving auroral arc. Ionogram sequences are related to absorption occuring during auroral display.
