Computerized inventory/design system for graphite molds
Abstract
A computer code was developed to both inventory and design graphite foundry molds. The stock of existing mold cases (exterior wall of mold) is examined in search of a size that can be used for the current casting requirement. Successful candidates are further screened, until one candidate is selected. If none is found in inventory, a new case is designed. A core (interior wall of mold) is designed in every instance, since it is destroyed during removal of the casting. Computer-generated drawings for case, core, and assembly are produced on an x-y plotter.
