Testing without test equipment
Abstract
The paper describes the Sampling Measurement Subsystem (SMS), which consists of a sampling unit, a minicomputer, and a CRT display, and is designed to replace conventional hardware measurement and stimulus techniques which use discrete instruments for measuring unit parameters and generating test signals. The SMS can replace instruments including digital multimeters, counter/timers, phase meters, and waveform, spectrum, and network analyzers. The Arbitrary Function Generator (AFG) used in conjunction with the minicomputer software can generate any repetitive or transient waveform (from 0.005 Hz to 3 MHz) which can be described in the time or frequency domain.
