Intelsat system reliability
Abstract
Design aspects of satellite communications are investigated, those of the Intelsat global system of satellites and earth stations in particular, emphasizing the degree of reliability, its importance, and the means through which it is attained. The experience with commercial communication satellite systems has again shown that reliability can be ensured by painstaking care in all phases of system planning and engineering design. Various statistical techniques and trade-off studies have been utilized during the planning phases of satellite systems, combined with good basic engineering design to properly model this conceptual system.
