The degree to which the earth is balanced and the mechanism of the secular motion of its poles
Abstract
A mechanicomathematical analysis shows that the earth is currently in a state of imbalance owing to anomalous mass distribution and that the degree of imbalance is defined by the misalignment between its dynamic axis and its axis of rotation. This imbalance generates a gyroscopic moment which exerts a dynamic pressure on the dynamic axis, causing a displacement of the earth in the direction of its kinetic-moment vector. Since the dynamic axis is rigidly coupled to the body of the earth, it will shift together with the earth and not with the earth's axis of rotation, leading to a displacement of the earth's poles of revolution, known as their secular motion.
