On estimation of truncation errors using the "3 law for kinetic energy
Abstract
The truncation errors associated with the estimation of horizontal vorticity advection on a numerical grid are evaluated using Wiin-Nielsen's (1967) kinetic energy spectrum. It is found that previous estimates made by Chouinard & Robert (1972) are too low. The possible effect of aliasing errors on the initial estimation of horizontal vorticity advection are investigated and found to be serious.DOI: 10.1111/j.2153-3490.1974.tb01623.x
