Two-dimensional flow around a model in periodic motion
Abstract
A synthetic survey of various visualizations acquired at the Chatillon water tunnel since the beginning of its operation in 1951 by classifying according to the model shape (cylinder, flat plate, aerofoil without or with flap) and the nature of the movement (angular oscillations, alternate translation, uniform rotation, etc.), is presented. Among the visualizations obtained many concerned the two-dimensional flow around an obstacle subjected to a non stationary movement of periodical character. In each case, visualizations show the outline of the phenomena and the relative importance of the various parameters governing the motions studied, whose purpose and applications are also specified.
