Antenna array with circular waveguide elements and their impedances
Abstract
The theoretical basis for calculating the active reflection coefficient of a plane infinite antenna array with circular dielectric filled wave guides in a symmetrical pattern has been presented by Amitay and others. Such computer programs are made use of in this report to analyze a number of different geometrical arrangements for antennas. Consideration is given to ten wave guide modes and 98 free space modes. Also presented is an optimization program for impedance matching of antenna elements by means of sections with alternate high and low dielectric constants. The possibilities of impedance matching as a function both of control angle and of frequency, are studied and many numerical results are given. In the optimization program only the fundamental component of the input reflection coefficient is taken into account. A third computer program is presented which analyzes the matching of this antenna element in more detail and for this purpose takes 10 modes into account, as a check that the approximations are permissible and that higher modes do not have too great an influence.
