Gas-transfer analysis, section F: Approximate unchoked solutions for arbitrary V infinity/V sub 0
Abstract
The approximate subsonic gas-transfer solutions, valid for arbitrary receiver to supply volume ratio, in terms of the minimum flow area Crocco number for both adiabatic and isothermal reservoirs are derived. The solutions hold for an ideal gas and unity loss coefficient, but arbitrary time-dependent product of discharge coefficient and minimum flow area, C(d)A(e). Illustrative results are presented for constant C(d)A(e) and various values of the volume ratio (receiver to supply). It is shown that for each value of the volume ratio simple expressions for the time of pressure equilibrium exist in terms of a reference time scale, the ratio of specific heats, and the initial receiver to supply pressure ratio. The choked flow solutions are coupled to these results and are included for completeness.
