Closed loop testing of LES-8/9 autonomous stationkeeping system
Abstract
This note describes the testing of the Autonomous Stationkeeping System for the Lincoln Experimental Satellites 8 and 9. The closed loop testing described here allows the evaluation of the transient (station-changing) and steady-state (stationkeeping) response of the system using the real sensors and electronics. The testing is performed in speeded-up (6250 times) real time by using a Hewlett-Packard 2116B computer. The computer simulates the orbit mechanics and perturbations, the navigation errors and an attitude model. The computer monitors the firing time outputs of the stationkeeping system and controls the sensor stimulators which actuate the sensors; it also performs data processing for real time display and data logging for post processing. This testing can be done while the stationkeeping system is standing alone, and also when it is integrated on the satellites. This note also describes briefly the open loop testing used for routine checkout of the stationkeeping system without using the computer, and the stationkeeping test station built to perform the above testings.
