Development of a model for horizontal annular flow
Abstract
Work is proceeding on the development of a model for horizontal, annular, two-phase flow. The model involves the following: an analysis of the droplet diffusion in the gas phase that allows for the variation of droplet entrainment around the tube perimeter but does not allow for gravity forces on the drops; drainage in the film due to gravity and allowance is made for turbulence in the film but not for the effects of waves; the entrainment correlation developed at Harwell; a prediction of gas phase hydrodynamics and axial shear stress on the film by a technique that allows for the different roughnesses around the tube due to waves; and an empirical relationship between film thickness and effective roughness. Combining these models with a film mass continuity equation permits prediction of the full flow hydrodynamics.
