Optimisation of automatic impedance transformer processes, using aerial matching as an example
Abstract
The optimization criteria for an impedance transformation process as applied to antenna installations are examined. A system is designed which represents an optimum compromise in the process to provide speed and economic efficiency. The requirement to match the aerial power to the feed line is analyzed and the numerical relationships are established. The most important criterion in the selection of the control are the effects of the antenna base impedance when there is a change in the conditions in the field in a nearby antenna. The basic design of the control arrangement for accomplishing the desired transformation is explained. Diagrams on the control circuit for the automatic tuning of a transmitter antenna are provided.
