Orbital lifetime estimates
Abstract
Orbital lifetime estimates for long lifetimes (30 y) are presented for initial eccentricities from 0 to 0.95 and for perigee altitudes from 200 to 1600 km. The lifetime estimates are based on a semianalytic form of the equations of motion developed by King-Hele and the latest (1971) Jacchia atmospheric model. A mean 11 y solar cycle based on historical records of the Zurich sunspot number is employed in the calculations. Comparisons are made to previously published lifetime charts.
