The torque/speed characteristics of 57 squirrel cage induction motors, each of which has a different rotor/stator slot combination were examined, and comments on the effects of the numbers of slots on the characteristics of the machines are made. It is claimed that the phenomena of synchronous crawling was noted for the first time, and an explanation of asynchronous crawling and of cogging is offered.
