Possibilities of acoustic emission measurements in materials testing
Abstract
Concepts and terms used in the field of acoustic emission are considered along with the basic relations and application possibilities of this field. Macroscopic and microscopic causes of acoustic sound emission are investigated and the Kaiser effect described. Approaches utilizing acoustic sound emission for the study of metallurgical processes are discussed. The acoustic emission analysis is, therefore, an important procedure for the detection of damage at an early stage.
