Digital airborne equipment for AEROSAT
Abstract
Today air traffic control over oceanic and desert areas is hampered by a lack of radar surveillance. To improve the situation the French administration initiated in 1967 the development of the DIOSCURES project, which was meant to provide aircraft with reliable means for communication and position fixing. After completion, a new version of the DIOSCURES system, called AEROSAT, was launched by ESRO, later supported by U.S. organizations. The present article describes the airborne equipment as made by TRT for DIOSCURES and the test results. Then follows a description of the AEROSAT equipment made by TRT, which will be used in evaluation tests with the ATS/6 satellite.
