Teleoperator spacecraft control station configuration development
Abstract
An integrated control and display station configuration concept for operating a remote teleoperator spacecraft was developed and analyzed to provide the man/system interface design criteria necessary to identify potential Shuttle program compatibilities and impacts. While this evaluation was part of a program for free-flyer/tug remote control technology, it seems that the results may be applicable to the crew workstations associated with many of the proposed Shuttle program spacecraft. The primary objective involved deriving the relative proportions of a dedicated free-flying teleoperator (FFTO) system workstation. All FFTO subsystem were considered, with primary emphasis on the visual and manipulator systems. The control and display hardware associated with these systems was identified and mounted on a dedicated manipulator control panel. Man-in-the-loop simulations showed that manipulator operators with little training could perform simple satellite servicing tasks with relative ease.
