Plasmapause sounder
Abstract
The planned mode of operation and instrumental characteristics of the plasmapause echo sounder are described. Predicted parameters include a sounding frequency range of 20-500 kHz, a pulse width of 0.5 msec, a pulse interval of 0.2 sec (PRF 5Hz), and a transmitted peak power of 500 W for a 300 m dipole antenna. The technique of low-frequency echo sounding should open up new realms of radio exploration, especially regarding research on the plasmapause and the plasma trough.
