Laser measurement of mechanical vibrations
Abstract
A laser-based device for measuring low-amplitude mechanical vibrations by employing a heterodyne receiver to detect the laser radiation scattered by the vibrating object is described. Vibrational amplitudes in the range 0.0006 microns to 0.01 mm at frequencies of 20 Hz to 10 KHz can be accurately detected.
