Wide-band quartz infrared detector with a sensitivity of one nanovolt
Abstract
A wide-band quartz IR detector with a threshold sensitivity of one nanovolt is described. High sensitivity is achieved by employing a thin quartz plate as the sensing element; the temperature dependence of the frequency of the plate is maximum. A special coating is applied to the plate to make it absorb radiant energy in the region 3-30 microns. The detector has a high degree of vibrational stability and maintains its linear response over a broad range of temperatures.
