Investigation of the stability of uniform rotations of a symmetric top containing liquid
Abstract
A modification of Chataev's (1946) method for constructing Liapunov functions is used to derive the sufficient stability conditions for a spinning top from its equations of perturbed motion, in the case where the top has an ellipsoidal cavity filled out with an ideal fluid. The sufficient conditions obtained are compared with those of Rumiantsev (1966), Ishlinskii (1960), and Sobolev (1960).
