The optical sensors of the Netherlands astronomical satellite (ANS). II. The horizon sensor.
Abstract
Searching for an astronomical object takes place under the control of the horizon sensor. The infrared optics of the horizon sensor are considered, giving attention to the mirror, a concavo-convex germanium lens, a bandpass filter, and a hemispherical germanium lens which carries the detector. The electronics system of the horizon sensor are discussed along with aspects of sensor design, the motor for driving the mirror, and questions of accuracy.
