Strong shock structure
Abstract
The structure of an infinitely strong shock in a gas of rigid spheres is investigated. A bimodal form is proposed for the molecular velocity distribution function. Solutions are developed using moment methods. The error in satisfaction of the Boltzmann equation is developed and used both to evaluate moment solutions and to approximate a minimum error solution.
