Study of some characteristics of a heliumcadmium laser
Abstract
The present work discusses the results of an experimental study of nonlinear gain saturation of the 4416A emission line in a heliumcadmium laser of usual construction. The study was carried out by the method of calibrated losses, and it was found that for fixed discharge conditions, internal power density as a function of degree of gain could be described by the approximate formula given by White, Gordon, et al. (1963). This implies that the gain saturation in the given transition was of quasihomogeneous nature. In addition, output power, unsaturated gain coefficient, and spontaneous emission intensity were studied as functions of discharge current. All these curves lose their monotonic nature in the region of 75 to 85 mA.
