Nonlinear evolution of driftcyclotron flute oscillations
Abstract
The nonlinear oscillations of a inhomogeneous plasma situated in a magnetic field are analyzed under the assumption that the oscillations are directed normal to the field (i.e., that they are flute oscillations). A general nonlinear equation for the oscillation field is derived by applying perturbation theory to the kinetic equation (within thirdorder terms). In addition, a nonlinear equation is derived for quasimonochromatic wave amplitudes.
